SIAM’s Mandatory Fuel Efficiency Standards for Indian Automakers

For meeting the needs of the consumers, different companies are planning to launch new models along with remodeling the previous existing models. Because of the growth in the models, the consumers are getting confused to select the required model.

In order to be free from the risk of choosing the mileage of the car, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers(SIAM), has asked all the members for disclosing the fuel efficiency ratings of each and every model.

According to the scheme, fuel efficiency labels should be enclosed for the all the vehicles. This in turn helps the consumers for comparing the fuel efficiencies of all the vehicles. This scheme of labeling will be implemented from October 1st.

Although some of the automakers have already started to enclose the fuel efficiencies and as of now, the government is planning to gear up this scheme and make it a mandatory one. By this scheme, consumers will feel free to make their choice regarding the lower fuel consumption. This scheme also promotes as well as encourages the lower fuel consumption which reduces the green house emissions.

SIAM also opined that, industry earlier was not ready to accept the mandatory disclosure but as of now it has accepted towards the mandatory fuel efficiency standard. And, this act of label has been introduced under the act of Energy Conservation Act by the Ministry of Power.
