25% of US Drivers, Who Died In Car Crash Tested Positive for Marijuana

The worst habit that all the substance abusers have is driving under drug’s influence. The chemicals present in the drug make them excited and they don’t even know what they are doing under its influence. Drug Abusers are similar to people who never knew driving, even when they are driving their own car after having alcohol or taking any other illicit drug. A recent statistics on the drug related deaths showed how the drugs are taking away the lives of so many people.

According to the study published in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, researchers found that 25% of US drivers who died in a crash, tested positive for drugs. The most commonly used drugs by these people were the marijuana and stimulants, including cocaine and methamphetamine.

Similar study conducted by the state government also found that among some US drivers who were picked up randomly 14% tested positive for drugs. This shows that the use of drugs is almost twice among the drivers in fatal crashes and reflects that drugs to contribute to road deaths.

These findings are based on a government reporting system that gathers information from all US deaths. According to them all the states reported drivers blood alcohol levels while only 20 reported test for drugs. The abuse of drug makes the person to speed his driving, failure to obey traffic rules or not wearing a seat belt. Especially in case of marijuana, speeding and not wearing a seat belt are the major disturbances which result in fatal car crashes.

So, along with the alcohol which is considered to be the largest contributor of fatal crashes, drugs are also making a major part of them.
