Sumatra earthquake is also referred as Nias earthquake. As per the reports of scientific community, it was a major earthquake in Indonesia. On 28th March 2005, this disaster was occurred. Approximately 1300 were killed in this disaster. It was the second largest earthquake since 1965.
This earthquake lasted for about 2 minutes. After this event another 8 major after strokes were recorded measuring between 5.5 and 6.0 on the rector scale. This disaster destroyed hundred of buildings off the coast of Sumatra. It claimed 1000 lives on Nias Island and 220 lives on the Gunungsitoli Island. Already devastated by a major tsunami one year back, island of Sumatra again strongly felt the effect of the earthquake.
Many countries like U.S joined the hand with Indonesian government to build up some possible action against the strong natural disaster. Different countries donated millions in funds. Some countries like Australia dispatched the medical team and equipment to Nias Island.
