Effects of Tsunami on Indian Automobile Market

The Japanese economy is badly effected by the earthquake and tsunami. Even the Indian market also got effected by this disaster. the effects are:

Delay of Brio:
Much awaited Brio from the Honda Siel India whose parent company is a Japanese auto maker, which was supposed to be launched on March 17 was delayed due to the effect of tsunami in the Japan.

Toyota Postponed its Second Plant Inauguration:
The inauguration of second plant in India by Toyota in Bangalore is postponed because of the Tsunami. The company planned to establish this plant for the production of 70,000 units of Etios and Liva. The company has invested around 3200 Cr for this plant. Although the company is saying that the delivery of the Etios will not get effected by the disaster in Japan, but the waiting period for Etios will be increased because Toyota imports Etios’s engines and transmission from Japan.

Maruti Canceled 1 Cr Production Milestone Celebration:
Maruti Suzuki India is the largest selling automobile company in India and it has 50 percent share of the total automobile market in India. The company canceled 1,00,00,000th car celebrations which was supposed to take place on March 11. It is also assesing the effects of tsunami on parts to be imported from Japan, it kept buffer stock to run the production smoothly for two weeks.

There May Be Delays In Delivery Of Suzuki Kizashi and Nissan Teana:
The delivery of the kizashi and the Teana may be delayed because these both cars are imported to India as a completely-built-unit straight from Japan.
